Climate, relief, economic and production circumstances, as well as technological level of traditional community, conditioned sorts of devices, tools and instruments for transport of goods, people or animals. Horses, donkeys or cattle (mainly oxen, and more recently cows) were most often used for transport, so that majority of items in the collection represent the equipment or ornaments for draught animals. These are horse-girths, saddles and equipment for saddles, packsaddles, spurs, stirrup, horseshoes, bells, pasterns... The next part of the collection are the means for transport on river or sea: boats, rafts and ferries; road-transporton land - carts, cart equipment and parts, sleighs; contrivances used by people in hard natural and climatic conditions: skis, snow-shoes, 'gigalje' - resembling clutches, 'obramnice', woollen bags, 'mačke' for ice.
One part of the collection are sticks as multi-applicable tools and contrivances. Principally, they are used by elder or handicaped people, as well as tools in cattle breeding or devices for transport of lighter loads. Besides, by their manufacture, ornamentation and usage, they could represent a status symbol, measuring device during barters or a cult object. |
